Transboundary E-waste Controversy Map

The Step Inititiative - Always stay informed

  • Background:

    Solving the E-waste problem requires clear international rules and effective implementation of transboundary movement (TBM) policies. Beyond the wide-spread perception of e-waste shipments being solely for dumping in developing countries, there are also shipments of used equipment for reuse and components for repair.

  • Objective:

    (1) A comprehensive quantitative and qualitative review of the impacts of the various types of flows
    (2) Provide an overview of national and international existing policies and of international implementation activities (3) Developing a comprehensive view on what hinders and helps successful implementation of TBM policies in practice
    (4) Develop a more coordinated evidence grounded approach recommendations
    (5) Remove barriers towards Sustainability.

    −Recommendations grounded in evidence based recommendations for all international stakeholders
