Become a topic leader for recycling best practices in the formal and informal e-waste recycling sector!

 

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is offering a unique training opportunity for African e-waste experts under its sector project “Concepts for sustainable waste management”, on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Together with international experts and in conjunction with the upcoming 2019 IFAT Africa trade fair on refuse and recycling in Johannesburg, GIZ is organizing a six days training of trainers course on inclusive recycling of electrical and electronic waste (e-waste).

Objectives

The course aims at training selected African experts to become topic leaders in the area of improving recycling practices in the formal and informal e-waste recycling sector.
The training will have a focus on:

  • the general framework of guiding principles for inclusive recycling,
  • the sustainable integration and improvement of the informal sector,
  • the compliance with technical recycling standards and related audit procedures in a typical African e-waste value chain.

The course curriculum includes both theoretical presentations and practical group work, as well as field visits and networking opportunities with industry stakeholders in the context of the IFAT trade fair.

Following the training, the participants will be equipped to provide support to recyclers both formal and informal to improve their processes in their home countries to support the establishment of sustainable e-waste recycling across Africa.

Who can join?

The training is directed towards African professionals from the sustainability and waste management sector who are well acquainted with the topic of electrical and electronic waste and have a genuine professional interest to act as a multiplier for the concept of inclusive recycling in their country of residence.

Application procedure

The number of participants is limited to 15 applicants, which will be chosen on a competitive basis. Participants are expected to pay an admission fee of EUR 150. All other expenses (flights, visa, accommodation, food and local transport) are sponsored by GIZ.
