New members of StEP Supervisory Committee

We are pleased to announce that Eelco Smit and Garth Hickle join the StEP Supervisory Committee! Both are well-known experts in the field of e-waste management and will bring new and very valuable perspectives to the StEP Supervisory Committee. This will help bring StEP forward and continuously work on defining solutions for sustainable e-waste management systems.

Eelco Smit is a Senior Director at the Philips Group Sustainability team where he is responsible for all eco-design, compliance and continuous improvement activities. Furthermore, he is responsible for the sustainability performance of the Personal Health Business groups in Philips. In recent years he has actively worked on the implementation of the Circular Economy program at Philips with a specific focus on business model innovation, Circular product design and increasing the use of recycled plastics. In this role Eelco represents Philips at several Industry Associations where he is actively involved in discussions on the Circular Economy and waste legislation.

Garth Hickle serves as a board member of the Global Product Stewardship Council and the Sustainable Electronics Recycling Initiative (SERI). He is also a Senior Lecturer and Visiting Scholar at the University of Minnesota.  He has published in the Journal of Industrial Ecology, Journal of Cleaner Production, Resource Conservation and Recycling and Business Strategy and the Environment. Garth has a strong emphasis on environmental product policy and the circular economy. Previously, he led the product stewardship program for the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA).
